Frequently Asked Questions from North Sky Aerial Photography

What are OBLIQUE photos?
Oblique photos are photos taken out of the side of the aircraft, There is low-angle oblique, which means they are taken at relatively low altitude (1000 - 3000 ft.) and may include the horizon, or high-angle oblique, where the camera is pointed farther down or vertical and often take at higher altitude (3000 - 8000 ft).

Oblique photos are used most often used for landscape photos, scenic views of buildings, houses and factories. For real-estate, oblique views are often used to show the relationship of a building to the surrounding area to show proximity to roads, utilities, points of interest etc.

What are VERTICAL aerial photos?
Vertical photos are taken with a special camera system mounted in the bottom of the aircraft. The camera is triggered remotely and automatically to allow for overlapping coverage or stereo picture pairs. Photo location and aircraft path is often referenced to onboard GPS systems, and the camera functions and view is monitored using micro-video cameras mounted on the primary camera. Altitude can vary from 1000 ft. to 10,000 ft. depending in the area coverage and resolution required.

Vertical photos are used for engineering of manufacturing sites, environmental assessment, road planning, land sales, surveying, property line disputes and many other technical areas.

When I right click on your photo gallery images I can't copy or print them. Instead I get the message: "All photographs and web content ©2002-2005…" Why?
Because we are in business to sell photography and our photography services. In today's digital age, it is possible to download and copy the same images we spend money to produce, if we allow it. Flying and professional photography are incredibly expensive. To remain in businesses and to continue to provide this service to you, we need to protect our property rights.
